"Shough was selected by the Saints in the second round of April's draft. He is the oldest QB in this rookie class (25), having spent his seven collegiate seasons at Oregon, Texas Tech and Louisville. He completed only 63% of his passes last season and for his career, but has a big frame, good arm and adds some value with his legs (career 196-1,109-11 line). Following Derek Carr's shocking retirement in May, Shough will slot in as the Saints' No. 2 QB behind Spencer Rattler. Shough figures to eventually earn starts this season, but even if he's on the field, he's unlikely to emerge as a consistent fantasy option in an offense that is expected to struggle in 2025. Shough should not be drafted."

"Shough was able to head into the offseason with yet another encouraging outing, capping off a second half of the season in which the 2025 second-round pick cemented himself as the Saints' starter heading into 2026. Shough opened New Orleans' scoring with a one-yard run late in the second quarter, and he went on to add a 16-yard scoring toss with just over a minute remaining that featured a nifty one-handed catch from Ronnie Bell. Shough finished his rookie season having completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 2,384 yards and a 10:6 TD:INT while adding a 45-186-3 rushing line across 11 games."

"With Mariota set to be sidelined due to the pair of injuries he sustained in last Saturday's 29-18 loss to the Eagles, Josh Johnson will be called upon to make his first start since the 2021 season. Meanwhile, newly signed Jeff Driskel will serve as Johnson's backup, and Washington plans to sign Sam Hartman off its practice squad to serve as the team's emergency No. 3 quarterback, per John Keim of ESPN.com. According to Ben Standig of Big 100 Washington D.C., Quinn said he still has hope that Mariota will be able to return for the Commanders' Jan. 4 regular-season finale in Philadelphia, though Mariota's availability will hinge on what he's able to do in practice next week."
